Yes, you can. Regularly we are being asked by our clients to advise them on Pet insurance options in the UAE. Although we are in favor of Pet Insurance in general there are quite a few considerations to make. This is why we, at Al Barsha Veterinary Clinic, are not promoting any of the newly started Pet Insurers in the UAE. Not promoting does not mean we will not work with them.

You can prevent it in puppies and dogs. Vaccination is the generally used and best available prevention for canine distemper.

Dubai residents are obliged to register each pet under their name through the Dubai Municipality Registration Portal with the assistance of a trusted veterinary care and treatment provider.

With the potential increasing virulence of emerging strains and the wide host range of canine distemper virus (cdv), widespread vaccination of domestic dogs is essential.

Dog Periodontal disease starts as gingivitis, caused by the organism’s reaction to dental plaque and calculus and progresses as periodontitis, an inflammation of the periodontal tissues, a structure that supports the teeth into the jaw (alveolar bone) to be destroyed. Periodontitis is irreversible.

TNR stands for TRAP-NEUTER-RELEASE  of stray cats. For years we are facing the growth of the stray cat population in Dubai. Unfortunately, we can’t find a loving home for all of the stray cats and some of them don’t even want to become indoor cats (just because they are born as a stray and are used to strolling the neighborhood). Nevertheless, they need our support to survive in this harsh environment by feeding them and getting them vaccinated and neutered.

Follow these steps and prepare a digital thermometer, petroleum jelly, gloves, and wipes for cleaning. Using a thermometer we can quantify an important piece of pet health information.

Get your pet ready on a table or your lap:

  • Lift your dog into the table or your lap
  • For a larger dog, one person gently embraces the dog so he/she stays in place by holding one arm around the neck (controlling the head) and one around the chest
  • Do not restrain too tightly as this will make the dog want to escape
  • Another person lifts the tail and inserts the thermometer behind

How to apply the thermometer for the measurement of rectal temperature?

  1. Apply some Vaseline to the thermometer
  2. Switch the thermometer on by pressing the button
  3. Gently restrain the animal
  4. Raise the tail
  5. Introduce the thermometer in the anus and advance a few centimetres
  6. Wait till the temperature shows, a beep might be heard
  7. Remove the thermometer
  8. Read the temperature
  9. Clean the thermometer using an alcohol wipe so it is clean for the next use
  10. Consider marking this as the “Pet” Thermometer

Ectoparasites (external parasites) are organisms that live on the skin of a host, from which they derive their sustenance. Ectoparasites include a wide range of parasitic arthropods, we distinguish the acarine (ticks and mites) and the insects (fleas, chewing and sucking lice, mosquitoes, flies and phlebotomes commonly known as sand flies).
